How we work 21 Oct 2026 5 min read

How we work with uPVC window companies.

uPVC has a genuinely strong performance story — low U‑values, warm frames that resist condensation, and now a defensible fire case too. But a story isn’t evidence, and under NCC 2025 it’s the evidence that gets scrutinised. Here’s exactly how we turn one into the other — and how to work with us.

We kept hearing the same thing from uPVC makers lately: you know your product performs — but you’re not quite sure how to work with an independent lab, or what we actually do for you. Fair enough. So here it is, plainly.

AFRC Lab is an independent, product‑neutral lab. We don’t supply windows and we don’t compete with you — we generate the performance data you use to prove your systems meet the Code. Put simply: we provide the verification data; you achieve the certification. Your systems, your suppliers and your customers stay yours. We just bring the proof.

What we actually prove

Thermal Section J

BTW models your actual installed window to ISO 15099 — Uw, SHGC, Tvis. A WERS alternative that reports your window and size, not a generic one.

Condensation F8 / H4

TIRS establishes the Mould Index on the junction that governs — the certifier‑ready condensation evidence the Code now asks for.

Fire Class 2

The fire‑engineered Performance Solution pathway for uPVC in Class 2 buildings, delivered with our accredited fire partners.

Acoustic & carbon

Rw / Ctr sound data and embodied‑carbon figures when a project — or a spec — calls for them.

OPTESEALED installation

The window‑to‑wall install mapped, trained and certified with Optiseal — airtight, weatherproof and documented. Because the junction is where performance is won or lost, and a compliant window badly installed is a non‑compliant building.

How it works — four simple steps

Send us one window.

Your system at a real project size — or a window you’ve already rated. We’ll model the first one free, so you can see the result before anything else.

We model it.

The actual installed window to ISO 15099 — real size, your frames and glass — for the true Uw, SHGC and a condensation screen. Not a generic catalogue size.

We prove it.

Certifier‑ready evidence: Section J energy, F8 / H4 condensation (Mould Index), and the fire / Class 2 pathway where it’s needed — numbers your clients and certifiers can rely on.

We support you — on every project.

Your independent performance‑evidence partner from there on, so “compliant” becomes something you can show, not just say. No lock‑in, no change to how you run your business.

Your systems, your suppliers and your customers stay yours — we just bring the proof.

About AFRC Lab. AFRC Lab (Advanced Fenestration Research & Certification) is an independent fenestration consultancy and a member of the uPVC Windows Alliance. It is not the AFRC and is not affiliated with WERS or the Australian Fenestration Rating Council. We provide verification data and modelling; where testing or certification is required it is delivered through our accredited specialist partners. Project‑specific thermal simulation to ISO 15099 / NFRC 100, with condensation assessed via the Mould Index (TIRS); modelled results are indicative to the systems and sizes provided, and final NCC compliance is confirmed by your assessor or certifier. BTW™ and TIRS™ are trademarks of AFRC Lab Pty Ltd (patent pending).
